"Nibbles" (nibbles)

This is one of many like it. Our Greyhound has a light problem and tries to eat shadows. What would be the best way to repair damage like this?

Sell the dog.
Ugh, textured walls too. I mean, you could attempt to spackle it and used a silicone squeegee to get the surface to match the surround textures, but I don’t know if that’s going to be 100% perfect.

Ugh. Textured drywall is the worst.
You could try some of that texture-in-a-can stuff that hardware stores carry, but trying to match the original finish is a huge pain.

Paint the scratches tan and put an end table in front of it.
Matching that texture will be a PITA

IKR?! I hate that the whole damned house is textured. Nonetheless I can’t do much about that. Would all-purpose drywall compound be enough to repair the divots though? I really don’t want to have to cut and replace large chunks of wall

I was going to say “just mud it,” then I saw that wall is textured
I have a small stain on one our our bedroom ceilings from a small roof leak five years ago that I’m trying to ignore because it’s on a 30 year old stippled ceiling that I know I’ll never be able to reproduce the texture and the color of the mud.
(stop looking for the stain, this is just an image of stipple)

As far as the dog chasing shadows and light, you should really read up on light fixation in dogs and how to break them of it (mostly through exercise and distraction), because it's something that can get worse and develop into a full blown OCD.

Yeah, those look shallow enough that regular compound should fill them just fine.

Yeah, you can fill the gouges with AP mud first before trying to get all artsy with the finish.
Or just install wood paneling over the lower 36" and top it with a chair molding...

How much effort do you want to put in?
What I would do is get some joint compound to fill the holes, sand down the joint compound and the surrounding texture to level, get some spray texture and try and match it as closely as possible and repaint it. If you do a good job, the only people who notice it should be you and people looking verrrrrry closely for mistakes.
Some other oppos might know better than me as I'm no professional when it comes to stuff around the house.

I have the same problem with light fixation with my Rottweiler, so I know what a pain it is.
That's gonna leave a mark!

Best bet is to fill the low spots with spackle. Take a damp sponge and wipe excess spackle off the undamaged areas much like you were wiping down grout, keeping the grout only in the lines, not on the tile. The idea is to make the damaged areas at the same height as the undamaged areas. The damaged areas will be flat vs textured but once it’s primed (2X) and then the wall painted, it will minimize the damage. Unless you are looking for it, the eye will not see it. Of course you could take the easy way out and just move.

Full disclosure, I would probably leave it for a few years because I’m a lazy fuck and take little to no pride in my house but that’s what I would do if I got around to fixing it.

Spread joint compound
Sand flat
Apply a thin layer by dabbing with a sponge for texture (the holes create the texture, feel free to mess with making cavities and such)
Paint

Not if the entire room is covered in them. I have posters and magazine ads from floor to ceiling in my bedroom.

At least that’s what I’d do

What you do is take a firm brush... place some compound on it. and run your finger away from the wall so the bristles will fling compound onto the wall. do it enough to build an uneven bubbly base. then gently rub a slightly moist sponge over it to smooth out sharp portions and make it little more even.
Wait to dry. paint. Have a beer

I just had a twitch! Can we outlaw wood paneling? Send them back to when they came from - 1980s. If Trump becomes president, I’ll ask him to stop wood panels from coming into the US!

My fence is being erected as we speak. It’s not so much to keep the illegal immigrants out. It’s more to keep legal dogs in. Fuckers like to run like their ass is on fire. Fence includes gates too. Had to wrestle my wife to get gates... I don’t get why she’s against gates...

That’s why we’re doing it too. Greyhounds like to have room so I’m extending the back yard to come all the way to the front of the house. That means the driveway is gated in. Which means I get gates :)
Which also means I was able to convince the wife to get power gates :) :) :) :) ): :) :) :) :) :) ): :)

lucky Sonova Beach!
Like a barbarian, I will have to get out of the car when snow and rain and hail is falling all to open a damn gate. Drive the damn clunker in. Get out again to shut the gates.
I might have to get some powaaa
